Why do we commemorate March 8th?
It is essential to remember the origin of this date so as not to lose sight of our struggle. International Women's Day has its roots in the labor movement of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
One of the most tragic and defining events occurred in 1911 , when 129 women died in a fire at the Cotton factory in New York City because they were unable to escape the building, having been locked inside. From then on, March 8th became a symbol of the demand for labor rights, women's suffrage, and equal opportunities.
