Daniel Salvador, lawyer from Vosseler Abogados, explains the Darling Menjadi case on L'Hospitalet TV

Lawyer Daniel Salvador, head of the Criminal Law department at Vosseler Abogados, appeared on L'Hospitalet TV to explain the steps being taken to clarify the homicide of young Darling Menjadi. Alberto Ramos, Darling's stepfather , also participated in the appearance on the local television program ' Primer Segona'.

Last September, 16-year- old Honduran Darling Menjadi was stabbed to death on Antoni Capmany Street, near the Santa Eulàlia metro station in Barcelona. Another minor was also injured. Initially, some media outlets linked the incident to a fight between youth gangs, but the police investigation completely ruled out this hypothesis.

Daniel Salvador, the lawyer from Vosseler Abogados representing the young man's family, explained on the television program that the case is in the judicial investigation phase . He specified that there are already adults in pretrial detention and minors in juvenile detention centers, as well as other individuals under investigation but without precautionary measures. The investigation continues with key procedures: forensic reports, analysis of blood found on the suspects' clothing, and extraction of data from mobile phones. All of this is aimed at determining responsibility, not only for the perpetrator but also for any possible accomplices or instigators, Salvador noted.

For his part, Alberto Ramos insisted that the crime was a premeditated ambush and reiterated that Darling did not belong to any gang. According to his stepfather, Darling was a responsible, studious boy, and exceptionally mature for his age. His murder has had a devastating emotional impact on his family, who are currently undergoing psychological treatment . It has also generated strong community support and numerous spontaneous tributes at the scene of the crime and at his school.

For the family, the question that still hurts is the same: why? The attack was unjustified, there was no argument or attempted robbery, and the aggressors acted gratuitously and violently.

Serious problem of youth violence

Daniel Salvador explained that the investigation of the case could last around a year and a half, so the trial, which he confirmed will be before a Jury Court , will hardly take place before 2027.

Beyond this specific case, the family and their legal representatives warn of a growing problem: the increase in young people carrying knives in the streets. This gratuitous violence, lacking clear motivations and carried out by groups, must be addressed through both the justice system and preventative and educational policies.
